Silhouettes on the Shade

Top: Gap/Skirt: Lulu's/Shoes: Christian Louboutin

I actually really like to take pictures since I've started this blog. Usually, I was the one behind the camera, taking pictures of friends, my surroundings, etc. Now, I've gotten more comfortable in front of the camera and I've learned so much more than I did when I was behind. My cousin, who is my photographer, has taught me so much about lighting and angling and as you can see from these photos, I wanted to see what it would look like if I shot in less light. I love the silhouette the lack of light has created and how more defined the pictures look. It's art and I hope you all look forward to my pictures looking more like art.

Roar

Tank: Target (sold out)/Shorts: Theory (no longer available)/Sandals: Sam Edelman/Necklace: Francesca's (no longer available)

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending one of my good friend's showcase. She was amazing! (Go check out her Facebook page Victoria E. Young) She did such a great rendition of 'Roar' by Katy Perry, which has been an inspirational song for me, that I thought it was a sign for me to dedicate my post to it. For me, it signifies my transition from high school, attending college, and coming back to Memphis with more knowledge, ambition, strength, and a newfound love for my city. Ironically, my high school mascot was a Tiger, and so my high school principal would always end the evening announcements with this philosophy that I still live by today; "Every decision you make has a consequence. You determine whether that consequence is positive or negative by the decision that you make. And remember, see the vision through the eye of the tiger."

I'm Inspired By: Beyonce Knowles-Carter

Ok...this is the last post about Beyonce in a while. I promise. But let me just say the concert last week was ah-mazing!!!. I had the best time with my best friends and I can't wait for her to have another tour (hopefully next year). Anyway, I have always admired Beyonce's style, from her time with Destiny's Child up until now. I remember when she first came out with the House of Dereon line. I HAD to get my hands on a pair of those jeans, and I actually have the pair that she wears in the "Irreplaceable" video. I would describe her style as glam, bold, and edgy, as she wears high-end designers like Tom Ford and Balmain, and also affordable pieces from Topshop, which she has being wearing a lot of lately. Take a look at some of the pieces I pulled to create 3 Beyonce-inspired outfits that will definitely "Upgrade U."

It's the Little Things

Top: H&M (sold out)/Pants: Jennifer Lopez for Kohls (in black)/Shoes: Sam Edelman/Purse: Louis Vuitton

Do you know how to enjoy the little things in life? A cute dog wagging its tail, a little child waving at you, sitting outside with family on a nice day: these are the little things that make me sit back and just thank God for life. We tend to get so wrapped up in our daily lives of going to work or school, and we forget to stop and smell the flowers. I challenge you, dear reader, to take a moment out of your busy schedule and just reflect on everything God has done for you. And I promise you, it'll put a smile on your face. Have a great week!

Girls Love Beyoncé

Crop Top: Topshop (sold out)/Shorts: J Brand (here's a pair on ebay)/Shoes: Tabitha Simmons (sold out)/Earrings: Topshop

TGIF! Just days away from the Beyoncé and Jay-Z concert, and I am so excited! So I decided to do a kind of "Who Wore It Better" post with the Queen B. Everything is pretty much the same except for the shorts. Not sure where she got hers, but I like mine better anyway. I remember seeing this photo on one of my favorite blogs Fashionbombdaily.com, and wanting the shirt and shoes, and to my surprise, they were both on sale and in my size! (Well, the crop top is 2 sizes bigger than what I would normally wear, but it still doesn't swallow me.) Don't get me wrong: I didn't buy them just because Beyoncé wore them, but because I thought the outfit was really unique and I really did love the shoes. I love how she can be glam one day, and so down to earth wearing affordable pieces, the next. So now, tell me, who wore it better??

What To Wear To: A Concert

What To Wear To: A Concert

I love going to concerts. It's something about seeing your favorite artist and hearing some of your favorite songs live, all while in the company of thousands of other fans just like you. Next week, I have the pleasure of attending the Beyonce and Jay-Z On the Run Tour in Atlanta. This will be my 4th time seeing the Queen B herself and the 2nd time seeing Jay-Z (although the first time was only a cameo at a Justin Timberlake concert). When I go to concerts, I dress as if I'm going out on the town with my friends, so below, I have put together an outfit similar to the one I plan on wearing. I know you have some concerts to attend this summer, so take my advice on this one. Everyone might be listening to the performer, but somebody will be checking you out.

Independence Day...Independent Woman

Dress: Francesca's (similar)/Shoes: Steve Madden (different colors)

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend, because I definitely did! I had so much fun that I didn't have time to post last week! But I'm happy to be back and glad you came back to visit me. So... after my great weekend (and I hope your's too), I'm starting to reflect on independence and what it actually means to me. For me, I believe it is to be able to have control of your life, without the help of others. It doesn't necessarily mean that you don't need anyone to help or be there for you, but that if you were all you had, you would be able to survive. And by that definition, I believe that I could be the poster child for independence. What does independence mean to you? Leave me a comment!
